THAILAND: Two Iranians convicted of explosions in Bangkok in February 2012

 

The case heightened diplomatic tensions between Iran and Israel. Two Iranians suspected of being linked to a plot against Israeli diplomats, discovered the Last year in Bangkok during accidental explosions in February 2012, were sentenced Thursday, August 22 to life in prison for one and 15 years of de attention to the other.

Saeid Moradi, 29, who had both legs blown off by the explosion, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in the Thai capital. He was found guilty of attempted murder, possession and transportation of explosives. Mohammad Khazaei, 42, was meanwhile convicted of one count of illegal possession of explosives, where the more lenient 15-year prison sentence.

Three explosions

Saeid Moradi, now in a wheelchair, had said during his trial that he was about to leave Thailand when bombs were found in a closet of a house rent in Bangkok, one of which would have exploded. Two others would then exploded as he ran down the street to throw in a nearby canal, an explosive cutting his legs.

Immediately after the explosion of February 2012, the Thai police and Israel have said that Israeli diplomats were targeted in the wake of attacks in Georgia and New Delhi . "The attempted attack in Bangkok proves once again that Iran and his cronies continue to act by means of terrorism, and the latest attacks are an example", claimed to time the Israeli defense minister, Ehud Barak. But Tehran has fiercely denied any involvement in these cases, turning the accusation against Israel.
